YOUR CRUISE ITINERARY

Southampton - Lisbon - Gibraltar - Valencia - Almeria - Porto - El Ferrol - Southampton

Day 01: Southampton, UK

Exclusively for adults - With a skydome over her inviting Crystal Pool you’ll enjoy stylish surrounds whatever the weather. At her heart, a 35-foot sculpture dominates the atrium while The Crow’s Nest offers panoramic views.

Day 02 - 03: Days at Sea

Mid-sized ship Aurora cuts a fine figure at sea with her elegant tiered stern, long bow and sleek funnel. She is best known for her world cruises and has everything a cruiser could want, including world class dining, spa, salon, cinema and theatre. At Aurora's heart you'll find a four-deck atrium with a stunning 35ft sculpture of two figures veiled in water.

Day 04: Lisbon, Portugal

Although small for a European capital, this city does sprawl a little so you would do best to concentrate on three districts - Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama, each with its own distinctive style, making Lisbon cruises a must see. Baixa has busy streets of inviting shops, cafes and restaurants while Alfama is the atmospheric old town with narrow cobblestone streets, medieval and Moorish-style buildings, wrought-iron balconies with trailing flowers and a mix of small shops and bars. Bairro Alto is another historic district with narrow streets and is a steep climb from Baixa so look out for the 100-year-old lift (Elevador do Carmo) near Rossio Square. With such a variety of destinations to explore, cruises to Lisbon bring to your holiday a balance of both modern and historical grounds.

Day 05: Day at Sea

Stepping aboard you'll find this ship a destination in its own right, with plenty of daily activities to keep you busy, bars, pools, sports and shops.

You can relax by the pool, catch a film or enjoy a cookery demo. At sea away from the rigours of routine the world unfolds at a leisurely pace and you have time to do as little or as much as you please.

Day 06: Gibraltar

Gibraltar also offers wonderful views of the Bay of Gibraltar and the Moroccan mountains from the Rock Restaurant, served by cable car from the Grand Parade. Birdwatchers can spot more than 230 species and there are clearly marked nature trails you can follow to discover the country's flora and fauna. The most famous 'fauna' of course, are Gibraltar's Barbary apes - get off the cable car at the halfway station to see these, then proceed to the top and hire an audio tape charting the Rock's fascinating history. Alternatively spend a day at the beach - Catalan Bay is the prettiest, with its colourful fishing boats and excellent seafood restaurants.

Day 07: Day at Sea

Mid-sized ship Aurora cuts a fine figure at sea with her elegant tiered stern, long bow and sleek funnel. She is best known for her world cruises and has everything a cruiser could want, including world class dining, spa, salon, cinema and theatre. At Aurora's heart you'll find a four-deck atrium with a stunning 35ft sculpture of two figures veiled in water.

Day 08: Valencia, Spain

Amongst art and architecture you can see plazas, palaces, churches and cathedrals, before heading to one of the city's white sandy beaches to cool off. The old city is a great place to begin and offers a superb selection of sights and landmarks. Valencia Cathedral displays 3 magnificent portals; one Baroque, one Romanesque and one Gothic. Once inside you can climb the octagonal Miguelete Bell Tower to see sweeping views then from here navigate the narrow streets to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the Museo de Belles Artes or the towers of Torres de Serranos. In the new town wander wide balmy avenues and simply observe and enjoy the Mediterranean way of life. More recent additions to the city include the aesthectically stunning and ultramodern 'City of Arts and Sciences' with its fantastically shaped soaring glass palaces.

Day 09: Almeria, Spain

Occupied first by the Phoenicans then the Carthagians, the Romans and the Moors, Almeria has an interesting and diverse history. Situated in the middle of the bay, facing the Mediterranean Sea, the area offers a selection of fine sandy beaches and coves. Standing atop the mountain, which provides the backdrop to the city, is the Alcazaba or Arab Fortress, built in 995, which commands some magnificent views. The reinforced cathedral, with its unique blend of Renaissance and Gothic architecture, was also once a fortress. Stroll through St Nicholas Salmeron Park then head up towards the caves in the old gypsy quarter. Alternatively, shop in the charming old town for fine leather and sample local wines and local specialities. Venturing inland you can explore the verdant countryside, still dotted with Moorish remains, from where it was part of the historic kingdom of Granada.

Day 10: Day at Sea

With a range of activities taking place throughout the day, you’ll struggle to fit everything in. Take a look below for some examples of activities you could enjoy on board...

Dance classes - Take place on all cruises with 7 or more days at sea which are hosted by coupled dance instructors. A variety of complimentary dance lessons are available with the main type of dance offered being ballroom and Latin. It may be possible to arrange 1 to 1 tuition; any charges generated from this would be at the instructor's discretion. Everyone is welcome regardless of experience.

Guest speakers - will be on board cruises of 7 nights or more (if over 20 night duration - 2 speakers share the cruise)

Deck quoits - however this is weather dependent.

Shuffleboard - however this is weather dependent.

Watercolour art - classes take place on all cruises with 6 or more days at sea. Art materials can be purchased on board or you may bring your own art materials to participate in the classes.

Day 11: Porto, Portugal

The cathedral area is filled with many treasures, like the Renaissance church of Santa Clara and the densely populated quarter of Barredo, which hasn't changed since medieval times. The narrow streets of the riverside quarter of Ribeira are delightful and dotted with fashionable bars and restaurants overflowing with seafood.

Day 12: El Ferrol, Spain

Main sights to see include the Castle of San Filipe, established in the 16th century to protect the Spanish Navy, or the Royal Dockyard, home to the ships themselves.

Day 13: Day at Sea

Stepping aboard you'll find this ship a destination in its own right, with plenty of daily activities to keep you busy, bars, pools, sports and shops.

You can relax by the pool, catch a film or enjoy a cookery demo. At sea away from the rigours of routine the world unfolds at a leisurely pace and you have time to do as little or as much as you please.
